Gira Esprit Linoleum-Plywood

Clear lines, natural materials

Gira Esprit Linoleum-Plywood is the first design line to unite two natural materials that complement each other perfectly. Both are sourced from renewable raw materials, are robust, versatile, and have always been popular among architects and designers. Frames in four attractive colours offer scope for a wide range of interior design combinations. Gira Esprit Linoleum-Plywood is an ideal choice for modern interiors, where clean lines and natural materials are preferred.

High-quality materials
processed with great attention to detail

The high-quality frames are characterised by their meticulous material selection and precise workmanship. A special, sophisticated production process was developed specifically for Gira Esprit Linoleum-Plywood. The result is extremely robust frames with a very delicate appearance, made in Germany following a large number of work steps and continuous quality control.

Plywood:
multi-layered, strong, natural

Materials

A classic in modern interior design: plywood is the material of choice for living and office areas in which linear aesthetics and a natural look are favoured. Shelves, tables, and chairs – including a number of classic designs – have all been made from this material. Gira Esprit Linoleum-Plywood is the first design line to use this material. For the frames, multi-layered cross-bonded birch plywood is used, which is approximately 3.4 mm thick and therefore especially strong. The layered structure of the outer edges provides an attractive contrast to the lustrous matt, coloured linoleum surfaces.

Origin and properties

The birch used for the frames originates from sustainably managed forests in Finland and is PEFC-certified. The long, hard Nordic winter only allows trees a short period of growth each year, resulting in very thin and uniform annual rings. This makes the wood especially homogeneous and strong, which ultimately allows production of birch plywood that is delicate and yet robust enough to be used for a frame.

Linoleum:
natural, attractive, durable

Materials

The advantages of linoleum have recently been rediscovered by designers and architects alike. The English chemist, Frederick Walton, developed linoleum as early as 1860, and it consists of natural, renewable raw materials. In addition to its main component, linseed oil, it is comprised of natural resin, wood flour, and calcium carbonate, as well as colour pigments. The natural appearance, diverse design options, and durability of linoleum were appreciated by legendary architects Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Walter Gropius, and it has become a standard for high-quality flooring and table coverings. Gira Esprit Linoleum-Plywood is the first design line to use this material. The untreated, slightly coarse texture of the frames makes using them a true sensory experience, both visually and in terms of touch.

Properties

Due to its unique material properties, linoleum is ideally suited for use as a frame surface. Linoleum is extremely durable and is known for its resistance to oils and grease. It has anti-static and slightly antibacterial properties, and it is also easy to clean. Therefore, the frames have a variety of uses and withstand particularly high demands.

Made in Germany

Gira, a family-run company based in the Bergisches Land region of Germany, has been developing and manufacturing electrical products of the highest quality and, in so doing, setting new standards time and again for more than 100 years. Gira Esprit Linoleum-Plywood is now the first design line to combine two carefully selected, natural materials. A production process that combines craftsmanship and state-of-the-art technologies has been specifically developed for this range by a team made up of engineers, technicians, designers and external experts. Each individual frame is made by experienced specialists in accordance with extremely strict criteria. Each production step is followed by stringent testing. In this way, attention to detail is demonstrated in the production of high-quality frames that cut a convincing figure with excellent design and precise workmanship.

A simple, fast and clean exchange

In general, frames for items such as light switches and socket outlets can be exchanged very easily if you have already installed frames from the Gira System 55 design line – this is because all of the frames for the Gira Standard 55, E2, Event, Esprit and ClassiX ranges are compatible with one another. Simply exchange the frames – the existing inserts can continue to be used. This is a simple way to lend the room new accents in terms of colour and physical appearance.

Design

Colour variants

Four colours for individual interior design

The Gira Esprit Linoleum-Plywood design line is available in four different colours. The range encompasses two neutral grey shades (anthracite and light grey) and two warm, earthy natural colours (light brown and dark brown). The colours are coordinated so that all variants can be combined on the wall to create a unique interplay of colours. As Esprit Linoleum-Plywood is a natural product, there may be colour variations that lend each frame a unique appearance.

Anthracite

The dark, neutral grey is similar to the colour and intensity of black slate. The anthracite colour appears confident and restrained in equal measure. It stands in clear contrast to light backgrounds and exudes functional elegance.

Light grey

This light shade of grey exudes a particular degree of lightness, sensory awareness and serenity. Light grey appears both friendly and elegant. It fits in smoothly and harmoniously with light backgrounds and provides an appealing contrast against coloured backgrounds.

Dark brown

A rich, earthy, and extremely deep brown. This natural colour conveys warmth, tranquillity, and cosiness. It stands in elegant contrast to the five-layered birch plywood. It looks extremely stylish against light and dark-coloured backgrounds.

Light brown

The light, clay-coloured brown shade radiates a particularly pleasant and natural warmth. There is a harmonious connection between the natural colour and the natural qualities of the Finnish birch. Light brown provides a subtle colour accent on light backgrounds.

Sample functions

More than 300 functions for a modern electrical installation

More than 300 smart functions from the Gira System 55 can be integrated into the frames of this design line to enable customised convenience, value and security. For example, in addition to socket outlets and light switches, the frames can also house the Gira home station, the Gira flush-mounted radio, Gira pushbutton sensors and much more besides. All of the inserts are available in different colour variants. Gira Esprit Linoleum-Plywood fulfils all the requirements of a modern home and allows a multitude of building installation functions to be implemented in a uniform design language.

More about the Gira System 55

Gira eNet wireless wall transmitter

Battery-operated Gira wireless wall transmitters can be conveniently placed exactly where switches or buttons are needed, whether or not a mains connection is present. They can either be securely mounted on the wall using screws or conveniently attached to smooth surfaces with adhesive strips. Bi-colour LEDs indicate the signal transmission status and the actuator status.

Gira surface-mounted video home station

The Gira surface-mounted video home station has a homogeneous front and features a state-of-the-art 5.6 cm (2.2") TFT colour display. Thanks to its capacitive sensor technology, it can be conveniently operated by lightly touching the buttons. To ensure greater operating reliability, internal calls and switching actions can be assigned individual names. The speakerphone function is so sensitive that the speaker can be understood, even when they are not standing directly in front of the microphone.

More

Gira CO₂ ambient air sensor

By monitoring the CO₂ concentration, the Gira CO₂ ambient air sensor enables the ambient air to be improved, which in turn has a positive effect on wellbeing. The air quality is indicated using LEDs in traffic light colours. If a limit is exceeded, windows can be opened or fans switched on, for example, and an internal buzzer can also indicate the increased CO₂ concentration.

Gira RDS flush-mounted radio

The Gira RDS flush-mounted radio simply sits in the wall – just like your light switches and socket outlets. This does away with the need for annoying cables, and work surfaces and counters can be kept free. The speaker has been completely redesigned to give the RDS flush-mounted radio a pure sound – and in excellent stereo quality when the Gira additional speaker, which is available as an option, is connected. Thanks to the capacitive sensor field and high-quality display for information and transmitter-specific data, it offers especially convenient and intuitive operation.

Gira motion detector

The next generation of the Gira motion detector for high installation areas provides even greater convenience and security throughout the building. In low light, the motion detector automatically activates the lighting as soon as someone enters the detection field and switches it off again once a defined period of time has elapsed if there is no longer anybody present. A new detection lens with dual sensors significantly increases the detection field and detection quality of the Gira motion detector. Being able to “crawl under” this field is a thing of the past.

Ecological balance

Gira Esprit linoleum-plywood has a lower environmental impact than conventional frames made of polycarbonate. When compared with a 1-gang reference frame, its global warming potential is approximately 75% lower. The consumption of fossil energy sources is significantly reduced by using less plastic made from crude oil. The values were calculated as part of a life cycle assessment. The process chain was studied from the raw material extraction to the factory gate (cradle to gate).
