Gira KNX CO₂ sensor

Gira KNX CO₂ sensor with humidity and room temperature controller Gira E2, pure white glossy

The Gira KNX CO₂ sensor reliably monitors the temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide concentration in buildings, and controls measures for maintaining the room climate within the KNX system. In schoolrooms, conference rooms, and meeting rooms: wherever there are a lot of people, the CO₂ concentration builds up quickly. Wellbeing, the ability to concentrate, and performance are already inhibited at a concentration of 0.08%. The maximum value of 0.1%, as recommended by DIN 1946, is often exceeded under current building standards and due to the high density of building shells.

It therefore makes sense to automatically monitor air quality. That job is taken on by the Gira KNX CO₂ sensor. In addition to its CO₂ sensor, the device is also equipped with a humidity and room temperature controller. As a result, when certain limits are exceeded, it ensures that windows are opened, fans are switched on, and the heating or air conditioning is regulated for example. The KNX CO₂ sensor is also suitable for use in the home, e.g. to prevent possible growth of mould in conservatories. What’s more: it is the first product of its kind that can be installed flush-mounted, in keeping with the rest of the electrical installation in the design line.

CO₂ sensor for fresh air

The Gira KNX CO₂ sensor measures the carbon dioxide content in the air across a range from 0 to 2,000 ppm. Depending upon four freely definable limits, various functions can be controlled via the KNX system, e.g. opening windows or switching on fans.

Temperature controller for a constant room temperature

The Gira KNX CO₂ sensor can also be used for single-room temperature control via the integrated temperature controller with individually adjustable setpoints. The controller differentiates between the operating modes of Comfort, Standby, Night, Frost/heat protection and Controller lock-out, each with their own temperature setpoints in heating and cooling mode, and transmits the appropriate correcting variables to the heating or air conditioning system via the KNX system.

Humidity sensor for the prevention of excessive humidity

The integrated humidity sensor determines the relative humidity within a measurement range of 10% to 95%. Depending upon two adjustable limits and the current humidity, various functions can be controlled via the KNX system, for example opening windows or switching on fans. In addition, the combination of current room temperature and measured humidity enables the Gira KNX CO₂ sensor to determine the temperature at which water in the air will form condensation on walls and ceilings, thus promoting the growth of mould. If this temperature point, the so-called ‘dewpoint’, comes close to being reached, the Gira KNX CO₂ sensor can regulate the heating or ventilation, for example, and can also emit an alarm message via the KNX system.

Button interface with free function assignment

The device features a button interface with two independent channels which can be locked during operation. When one of the connected switches or buttons is actuated, it sends signals to the KNX system. These could include signals for switching/pressing, dimming or blind control. In addition, it is possible to program encoder functions such as dimming encoders and light scene auxiliary units.

Various operating modes

The device can be easily adapted to the room conditions thanks to five operating modes – Comfort, Standby, Night, Frost/Heat protection and Controller lock-out (e.g. dew-point mode).

Installation

The Gira KNX CO₂ sensor is the first product of its kind that can be installed flush-mounted in keeping with the rest of the electrical installation in the design line. Power is supplied via a KNX line, meaning that an supplementary power supply is not required. The KNX CO₂ sensor does not have any operating or display elements.
